Tanzania Photo Safari • June 15 - 23, 2018

Day 1: June 15th: Arusha

You'll arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) to begin your adventure. A driver will be waiting for you to help you with your luggage and welcome you (Karibu!) to Tanzania! You'll be whisked away to your safari lodge to relax, swim, and mingle with the other guests.

We'll have a welcome reception and dinner.

Day 2: June 16th: Arusha - Western Serengeti

We're up early to catch our private transport to the Arusha airport for our first Tanzania Photo Safari adventure! To save time, we'll board a plane and fly to the Western Corridor of the Serengeti - Grumeti. Once we arrive we'll meet our local safari guide, board our Custom Toyota Land Cruisers - and begin our first game drive through the Western Serengeti. June is the end of the rainy season and the migration will be spread out with the front being near the Mbalageti River. River crossings can be an exciting time to game watch and makes for some exciting photos!

After our game drive, we'll make our way to our Tented Safari Lodge for some rest, relaxation, and a proper dinner and traditional bush bonfire after dinner.

Day 3: June 17th: Western Serengeti - Central Serengeti

After breakfast we'll board our custom safari Land Cruisers for a game drive South to the Central Serengeti. We'll take our time and follow lions, cheetahs, and other wildlife to observe their patterns and activity.  The Serengeti is an amazing and exciting place to be a photographer! We'll get up close with all the Serengeti has to offer!

After our game drive and picnic lunch, we'll make our way to our next luxury tented camp. Once at camp you can relax, have a shower, cocktail, and get ready for dinner. After dinner, we'll do some Astral Photography and hang with some Maasai for an evening bonfire and some fun photo ops!

Day 4: June 18th: Central Serengeti

We'll wake up and have breakfast and we're back for a morning game drive. After our game drive, we'll head back to camp and have time to back up photos, relax, read, nap and chill. We'll have lunch in camp and later in the afternoon, we'll head out for another scenic game drive. Due to the heat of the day the animals are most active during the mornings and late afternoons.

After our Central Serengeti Evening Tour we'll return to camp and get ready for a delicious dinner and drinks.

Day 5: June 19th: Central Serengeti - Ngorongoro

After breakfast we'll gather our belongings and make our way to Ngorongoro National Park via a Serengeti Game Drive. We'll have a picnic lunch in the crater and continue exploring more of the amazing wildlife and landscape that is Ngorongoro Crater.  You'll see lions, elephants, black rhinos, and much more!

After our game drive, we'll stay at the Ngorongoro Farmhouse which is one of the areas nicest (and one of our staff favorites!) properties. You'll have time to relax, swim, nap, use wifi, or enjoy the beautiful property. We'll have a wonderful dinner followed by cocktails. For those interested we can dive into workflow and editing.

Day 6: June 20th:  Ngorongoro - Lake Manyara

After breakfast we'll make our way to Lake Manyara National Park. Lake Manyara is know for it's monkeys, baboons, hippos, flamingos, and more. We'll have a picnic lunch at a scenic spot and have some time to walk around and explore the area on foot (it's safe in this area!).

After our game drive, we'll head to our Safari lodge to relax, shower, and get ready for a gourmet feast. After dinner we will have drinks, recap the day and unwind with some local entertainment.

Day 7: June 21st:  Lake Manyara - Tarangire

Today we travel to one of our favorite parks - Tarangire - Home of the Tree Climbing Lions. The park is popular for elephants, lions, giraffes, antelopes, zebras, and more! We'll have lunch at the lodge and have time to enjoy the scenic vista and enjoy some pool time and relaxation. We'll gather late in the afternoon and head out on a sunset game drive.

After our sunset cocktail, we'll head back to the lodge and prepare for dinner. This lodge has an amazing lounge and patio that overlooks a large portion of the park. We'll bust out the tripods and shoot the stars and the amazing landscape under the night sky.

Day 8: June 22nd: Tarangire - Arusha

After breakfast we'll have a morning game drive before we begin our journey back to Arusha. For those that want to relax you're free to stay and enjoy the amenities the lodge offers. We'll swing back and pick you up when we're ready to depart. En route to Arusha, we'll stop at an authentic Maasai village.

NOTE: there are many Maasai villages on the way back to Arusha. These are tourist traps and the villages are purely for show. We will be visiting an Authentic Maasai Village that is actually lived in by the villagers. Our local guides will offer translation and we'll have time to capture intimate portraits of some of the villagers.

After our cultural experience, we'll head back to Arusha to our lodge. Once checked in, we'll have time to relax, shower, and get ready for our farewell dinner and celebration.

John's Gear List

We want to reiterate that this adventure is not just for amateur photographers and enthusiasts who own a lot of photography gear. There's an old saying and we're not sure of the origin however it rings true to us -

"The best camera is the one you have with you."

You can take excellent photos with today's mobile devices IF you know what you're doing. Photography fundamentals such as lighting and composition apply no matter what camera or cell phone you are using. We promise you that your photography skills will improve and you'll come away with amazing photos no matter what camera you decide to bring.

That said, if you have gear bring it. Here's an extensive list of gear we recommend..
